"Assumptions" is a short story/memoir about the relationship between a young boy and an alcoholic woman in the latter years of her life. In September of 2013, the author was selected as a Finalist for the Tuscany Prize in Fiction for this short story. The author will donate 100% of the revenue that he receives from this publication for a student scholarship at his high school.

Really enjoyed the story and the direct, at times, raw voice. The characters were so fully drawn that I felt I knew them. This story deserves to have a wider audience and soon I bet I open up my New Yorker and see it there. I hope Mr. Mulhern continues to write and draw on his memories of growing up in Massachusetts.Betty S.

This is an enjoyable short story about growing up and losing your allusions about the world and the grown ups who live in it. The characters are interesting, and the story is entertaining.
